Robert is a man in his forties recently diagnosed with Dementia. He is divorced, has moved from interstate and does not have a strong network of friends. His primary carer is a Great Aunt. Robert would like to mix with peers but his diagnosis is making communication difficult. Fortunately Robert was able to access help through the Social Support for Younger Onset Dementia Program. The Coordinator noted that Robert had enjoyed bowling in the past. She made enquiries and linked Robert into a local club. At first a Community Worker took Robert each week but after a period of time a volunteer from the club started to provide transport and a friendship followed. Robert is now a frequent bowler, enjoying the socialisation and support he receives from the club. The Coordinator keeps in contact and is there to assist when needed.
