Support with daily living

Ted is 85 years old and has had recent surgery to remove a brain tumour, resulting in left sided hemiplegia, reduced mobility, impaired speech and reduced ability to perform activities of daily living. His wife June works full time and could not manage to meet all of Ted's support requirements.

Working with his coordinator, Ted identified the he would like to be supported to restore his independence within 6-8 months. By assisting and prompting Ted with daily living activities such showering, dressing, and cleaning community workers supported Ted to regain his skills and confidence.

Outcome

Ted was able to manage effectively with daily living after 6 months and exited from the programs. June advised that Ted had re-learnt skills that maintained his well-being during her working hours and that Ted would continue to be supported and encouraged by his family.
