Carer support

Bruce has been caring for Myra for the past 5 years since Myra suffered a stroke. He is a keen golfer but is finding it more and more difficult to leave Myra at home by herself on a Wednesday.

He contacted Catholic Community Services for help and found out there was a Respite program in his area that would provide companionship for Myra while Bruce enjoyed his Wednesday golf. He also heard about the Cottage Respite Program where Myra could stay for a long weekend and Bruce could take a break from his caring role.

At first Bruce was reluctant to leave Myra, but when he saw how happy she was, he took advantage of the time-out.

Bruce joined the Carer Support Group and found the sharing of similar experiences between all members very helpful. He knew he was not alone. With the support Bruce and Myra are receiving they both hope to remain at home caring for each other and their two Cocker Spaniels.
