Interventions for Severe Domestic Squalor
Support to alleviate the experience of inadequate living conditions.
The squalor service is based on a coordination model which offers a single point of contact for squalor enquiries and reduces duplication of effort when several agencies and services are already involved with the client - including local Councils, Housing NSW, Mental Health Teams, Home and Community Care services and Aged Care Assessment Teams.
The service works closely with the field staff of these agencies to identify clients at risk as part of an early identification/intervention approach and work with those clients living in domestic squalor.
The service includes a squalor hotline and assessment of priority based on risk of harm, as well as;
Providing 'environmental clean ups' to improve quality of life and reduce risk to health, safety and tenancy.
Ensuring collaboration between agencies in order to prevent the reoccurrence of domestic squalor.
Individualised strategies to ensure that the needs and rights of individuals are respected and that intervention occurs at the clients pace.
