Catholic Community Services ChoirWHO: Are The Ageless Angels?
We are a community choir who came together in March 2009 We all have one thing in common a love of music. We range in age from early thirties to late eighties and we have come together from across Catholic Community Services in the Metro North Sydney region.

Our members include clients from the community, day & respite programs, carers, friends, and family of clients, staff and volunteers.

WHY:
Our Client Christmas Party in December 08 brought together
our clients, staff, carers and volunteers. Everyone enjoyed good food, a great venue, getting dressed up and good company. But the highlight of the day was definitely the sing-along! We realised just how much we missed being involved in music and how much it can bring people together. This led to the formation of the Ageless Angels.

A quote from the day: "I don’t want this day to end I feel like it’s a dream and I don’t want to wake up"

choir3WHAT Did We Feel We Were Going To Achieve?
Increased opportunities to socialise among our isolated clients and families in a community setting and to promote valued social roles for our clients and their families We promote the learning (or re-learning) of musical skills and support our client group to be involved with their community.

We draw on their strengths, knowledge and expertise they no longer feel or know they have.

And of course, we have lots of fun!!

How: Did We Need To Get Started?

To get started we needed a great deal of enthusiasm support from management in allowing staff the time to set up and encourage people to join us.

Did we have grants? –no! We started with $189.00 dollars, a donation from staff.

The committee was formed to include choir members who had answered the call for singers. We were fortunate to be allowed to use the community hall at Waitara at no cost to the choir. We advertised within Catholic Community Services for members and we linked in with our Volunteer program to find willing volunteers to share their skills and knowledge.

choir4WANT TO KNOW MORE?

Our first rehearsal was on Wednesday 12 March 2009. Most of the people who attended that day (15) are still attending. With our new sing-along book in hand and Col our musical director to stir us on we were on our way. To our great delight we didn’t sound too bad.

We soon realised our members had come with wealth of knowledge. Some members were able to sing from listening to the music and reading the words, others able to sight-read music and some drawing on the past with the music bringing back their skills.

So who are we again?
