Dementia Home Respite DHR

Program Name: Dementia Home Respite (NRCP)

Description of Program:

Funded by NRCP this is a Dementia specific program tailored to the individual needs of Carers of frail aged older people (65+) with dementia and high care needs. Recipient may have high care needs not related to their dementia. Respite service is provided in the home usually when Carer is not present; but can assist with short walks along the street but is not eligible for outings or transportation. Service is available in the Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Ryde and Hunters Hill areas only. Regular service is on average 3.5 hours per week. May also be on weekends however service is reduced to compensate for weekend rates.  Priority is given to people not able to access other respite service options. Assistance includes social support; activities of interest; meal preparation; some personal care such as assistance with toileting; light domestic tasks (but which are incidental to the service).

  • In home respite and support for Carers
  • Services can include meal preparation; some light domestic assistance such as tidying up but is not intended to be a substitute for a program which provides this service primarily. Companionship.

 

Funded By: Department of Health and Aging National Respite for Carers

Eligibility Criteria:   Carers of frail older people 65+ with dementia and high care needs living in the Hornsby; Ku-ring-gai; Ryde and Hunters Hill areas.

Cost to Clients: $10.00 contribution per hour
