Korean Day Centre

Program Name: Centre Based Day Care

Centre Name and Location: “Heng Bok Hoe” (The Happy Place) Waitara & West Ryde

Brief Description of Program/Centre:

Korean Day CentreA day centre for older Korean residents living the in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai and Ryde Hunters Hill local government areas.  The centre operates 2 days per week. The Wednesday group meets at the Shepherds Bay Hall, Meadowbank whilst the Friday meets at The Hall, McQuoin Park, McAuley Place, Waitara.  

The centres operate from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.  The centre specifically aims provides socialisation opportunities to frail and elderly Korean people in the community  Focuses is on health and wellbeing by providing a daily exercise program encouraging clients to remain as active in community life as possible. To provide these opportunities clients are able to access a range of social activities that are culturally specific as well as hobbies such as group excursions, Karaoke, Sudoku, meditation, dance, board games and art groups.  

Transport is provided by a group car (where possible).  Clients arrive to a welcoming cup of tea at the centre followed by group exercises and a variety of group and person centre activities.  A hot nourishing lunch is prepared at the centre and is included in the cost.

The centre is staffed by an experience bi-lingual coordinator and centre based care workers as well as a number of volunteers. Staff are available to assist clients and carers with information and access to other services provided by Catholic Community Services whilst at the centre.

Eligibility Criteria: Frail and elderly Korean people in the community

Cost to Clients: $15.00 per day = $5.00 per day (transport)
