Overnight Cottage Respite - Chantal

Program Name: Overnight Cottage Respite

Centre Name and Location (suburb only): Chantal Waitara

Brief Description of Program/Centre:

Chantal is a home-like cottage situated in the leafy suburb of Waitara especially designed to cater for clients and carers needs.

The Cottage Respite Program aims to take the stress out of organising respite by providing personalised services without the need for ACAT assessments. The Cottage Respite Program aims to provide individualised care appropriate to the needs of each individual. In order to accurately meet each individual’s needs an assessment is completed by an experienced coordinator prior to booking the respite stay to ensure we can offer the appropriate care needs, and a safe and stimulating environment.

The cottage and surrounding grounds are secure and have been designed in accordance with the University of Sydney Dementia Design Guidelines.

Overnight Cottage Respite allows Carers to take a short break from their caring role with cottage stays providing overnight or short stays (up to 3 nights)- Thursday 3.00pm to Sunday 3.00 pm. Chantal cottage can accommodate between 3-5 clients every night.
The Cottage Respite Program is available to primary Carers of frail older Australians, including people with dementia and challenging behaviours, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD), people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds (ATSI) and people who are financially disadvantaged.

The aim of the service is to provide carers with a well deserved planned break from their caring role whilst carer recipient’s needs are being provided by a well trained and dedicated team.

Chantal is staffed by well trained and experienced care workers who provide ongoing support and continuity of care. Clients are assisted/ supervised with their personal care and continence management.

Clients are provided with nutritious meals daily which are planned and prepared in the cottage. At Chantal, we cater for special needs such as diabetes and cultural requests.

Out staff encourage clients to participate in meaningful activities of their choice and some planned outings where venues accessed are risk assessed, are also provided.

All  staff at Chantal is trained to assist/administer medications for clients from a pharmacist-prepared Webster pack only.

Carers are requested to provide enough clothes, toiletries and any incontinence aids that are required for the duration of client’s stay. Any familiar or personal items may also be brought to Chantal if this will make client’s stay more comfortable.
